Teaching and Research Office of English Specialty was established in 2000. It has a contingent quite competent in teaching and scientific research. With 28 full-time teachers including two professors and seven associate professors, it is responsible for undergraduate teaching of 19 classes of each grade of English specialty. Altogether more than 20 courses are offered, such as specialty skill courses and specialty knowledge courses. These courses cover linguistics, literature of Britain and America, culture of the West and translation, etc.
The competent teacher contingent of Teaching and Research Office of English Specialty is marked by reasonable and scientific age structure, professional title structure, educational attainment structure and knowledge structure. Six teachers have been abroad for study or further education. The teachers have published as many as 60 theses on various academic journals across China, published or translated over 20 works, undertaken 15 national-level, provincial-level and university-level projects of different kinds. Six various honorable titles have been successively awarded by the Ministry of Education, Jiangsu province and the university.
Teaching and Research Office of English Specialty attaches particular importance to international exchange. Since 2002, it has been holding Sino-American Culture Exchange Week in every May while inviting friends of America to attend the one-week culture exchange at our university. Face-to-face teaching activities, program performance and special report are carried out for students of each class, having greatly enhanced the students’ interest and initiative in learning English. Such a teaching discussion mode is rare across Jiangsu province, or even across China. It is a desirable attempt at innovation.
Over the past nine years, Teaching and Research Office of English Specialty has produced many outstanding talented people of English. They have solid basic knowledge, profound background knowledge of pharmacy, certain ability of scientific research and high humanistic quality. The passing rate of national TEM-4 and TEM-8 is over 95% and 92% each year, the passing rate of oral test is over 90％and 85％. Employment rate of graduates is as high as 99% each year. They are mainly employed by pharmaceutical enterprises, government organs and public institutions. They are diligent at work and ready to contribute, hence enjoying extensive popularity of employers.
